So about a year ago, a song came on the radio that I fell in love with completely. The lyrics took permanent residence in my mind for weeks, and it was on replay in my room basically all the time. It was one of those songs that I listened to over and over again until I was almost sick of it. It happened with John Mayer's 'Slow Dancing in a Burning Room', Leona Lewis' 'Better in Time, The Fray's 'All At Once', Fink's 'This is the Thing', and a whole playlist of other songs that will forever have a special place in my heart.
Even now that my obsession with the song has somewhat faded, Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team' is still one of my favourite songs, ever. I would sharpie the lyrics on my arms and legs in class, break out into the lyrics with my best friends, cry in my room at night with it playing in the background. So many memories come along with the words, and the melody, and ugh - just everything about it.
Although the meaning behind the lyrics are so dark and heavy, it's such a beautiful song.
And of course, after this long overdue introduction to Ed Sheeran's music, I got into more of his songs, and + is definitely one of my favourite albums right now.
'Kiss Me' 'Drunk' 'Lego House' 'This' 'Sunburn' 'Give Me Love' 'Wake Me Up' 'Small Bump' 'Wayfaring Stranger'
The many days I've spent curled up in bed listening to these songs and spending hours just thinking. Taking a break from all the shit teenagers have to put up with nowadays, and taking a break from all the endless drama and backstabbing that occurs amongst our "friends".
Sitting at home and listening to my iPod, singing along to my playlist at the time, they were definitely some of the most enjoyable days of the year.
'Sunburn' was also one of the songs on my 'Summer Playlist'. Although I stuck mainly to upbeat songs and cheerful lyrics;
- escapee - architecture in helsinki
- 1996 - the wombats
- it's nice to be alive - ball park music
- awkward - san cisco
- some night - fun.
- this = love - the script
- stay the night - james blunt
- sound of sunshine - michael franti and spearhead
my copy of + was one of my treasured possessions this summer, along with my iPod, speakers, and all my usual necessities.
I also found a post on tumblr that pretty much sums up my feelings about certain songs and music:
'do you ever listen to a song and feel this deep inconsolable sadness that makes your chest physically ache but yet it's the most beautiful feeling in the world'
'music can take me back to the happiest and darkest time of my life, the time i'm dying to re-live, and the times i forgot.'
and as I'm feeling rather deep tonight, I'm now going to go put my itunes on shuffle and curl up in bed with my beautiful new copy of 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green.
I hope you're all having a wonderful August!
xx, f.
